you dont actually have a concrete issue here you’re just flailing. find a purpose or shut up please. please. oh yeah, and i hate golfers because i believe in the values of sport. i believe in it not because of its social attnetion or whatever, but because it is healthy, fun, and you can meet great people playing it. im not against golf, im just against golfers. but even so, they arent playing a sport, its just a game anyway. you need to stop assuming and aimlessly trying to insult everything.
IOW, you especially like the seething hatred towards golfers in this routine. And that is precisely what’s wrong with this sort of routine and the people who get their jollies from them. Just be a coward and hide your hate behind bogus expressions of concern for the homeless and no one will object, even when you let slip such charming expressions as “golf fags”, right? Well, not quite.
If you think about it real hard, you will realize that pretty much everyone is smarter than people who seek deep truths in bad comedy routines. There are no big bonus points to be had clobbering this crowd in debate. No, I just have this personal policy of calling out hypocrites, which Carlin unquestionably is in this performance when he cries “NIMBY!” at America from the comfort of his own seclusion. And when clowns keep sending inane comments to my mailbox, I reserve the right to respond.
Oh shit, I mispelled a word. That means you`re smarter than I am. Just so we`re on the same page. Watch the video, no one cares about your opinion. That`s why you post paragraphs on youtube hoping someone will call you out on it so you can seem intelligent.
i just said it would sound like a good idea cuz nobody likes stupid golf fags and homeless people cant find other land, anywhere else. im not taking it as a political policy, if you thought i did, just better read better next time i guess. and by the way, the way you are describing carlin’s homeless on golfcourse skit reminds me of ALL of his skits. you cant like the rest but not this one, if you apply the same critiques. and it seems you’ve only heard of his religion skit beside this one.
Oh, the homeless tend to congregate in city centers for reasons that are fairly obvious to those who bother to THINK before flapping their gums. There aren’t many golf courses there! Indeed, the hoity-toity ones tend to be way out in the burbs. Just goes to show that when you treat a cynical, borderline antisocial comedian as a prophet, the “simple, brilliant” solutions you start believing in turn out to be simplistic, even simple-minded, and the very opposite of brilliant.
That’s PRETENTIOUS, idiot. Trust me!
Oh, btw, homelessness is NOT at its core “houselessness”. If it were, it would indeed be pretty easy to solve. No, at its core, homelessness is about hardcore joblessness, hardcore substance abuse and untreated mental illness. We used to warehouse the longterm severely mentally ill in so-called asylums. Now we let them fend for themselves on the street. This is considered progress in some quarters.
I don’t hate Carlin. I’ve already said I like a lot of his stuff. But I find that this skit falls somewhere south of lame when taken charitably and just a pile of hateful spit if taken on its own terms and the shrieky responses to my criticisms just more of the sort of religiosity that you all think you oppose, but in fact instantiate, And anyone who thinks that homelessness would be helped one whit by building houses on golf courses is the sort of person who seeks deep truth in crappy jokes.
I originally simply posted a QUESTION concerning how many rehab centers, prisons, etc were in CARLIN’S backyard, And then all of you defenders of the faith went berserk attacking me for daring the question the legitimacy of Carlin’s rant here and asking ME questions. I largely ignored the attacks, but answered the questions and of course rebutted the multiple false assumptions. The fact that the Carlinistas here can’t leave it alone speaks volumes. Typical fundamentalist shrieking.
My question is why your spending so much time going against this. IT doesn’t matter it’s entertainment not a way of life. If you don’t like it fine move on, but no one wants to here your bullshit, your opinion does not matter I don’t give a fuck what your mommy told you
actually, you dont understand the context at all. you just dont fathom the circumstances.
1. he is a comedian. his job is to entertain, which he is doing to most of us. there are haters for every comedian, you’re not special.
2. placing cheap houses on golf courses seems like such a brilliantly simple idea. golfers could perhaps find some other stupid shit to do.
3. he revolutionized the american way of thought. he DID do something. spreading awareness of corrupt americans was his thing.
Oh, I forgot to add that America didn’t invent NIMBYitis. Only a TRULY arrogant American would think so.
I also forgot to add that it’s not all that hard to find Native Americans if you spend time somewhere other than NY, LA and Las Vegas. I do get the point, but … “Fly over country”, y’know?
And what’s wrong with watching flies f**k, anyway? I mean, as long as it doesn’t cut into sitting back and enjoying some vintage Carlin “5 minutes of hate” …
My issue is that in this particular routine, Carlin sounds like a nasty old man vastly more into hating golf and golfers than he is into truly helping anyone. That is at best really stupid and at worst really creepy. And it’s something I deal with on my own animal rescue work. People who hang around doing little to nothing, but who try to impress me with how much they “hate people” for creating the mess are at best a huge waste of my and the animals’ time and really just make a bad time worse.
Why do you presume that people unimpressed with this routine must be bosses or golfers or ANYTHING other than just people perturbed by Carlin’s propensity to free wheel with the denunciations while not exactly working on the front lines of any social problems. Anyway, last time I played golf was on a pitch n putt course over three decades ago. “Green fee” something like $3 at the time. Yeah, totally elite. And there is a difference between being critical and just criticizing blindly. Trust me.
it is not self serving, he obvious is putting intellectual and philosopical content behind the crude depictions of modern reality. and i dont worship him, you’re putting words into my mouth. you are a golfer i presume? because golf is obviously not a sport and it isnt worthwile. perhaps even for the same reasons as religion. you want me to go into a thesis about what i just said, or are you just doing to dismiss me as a low-life? i’m a critical person, carlin was too.
And don’t worry. I obviously can “deal” with Carlin’s self-serving BS a lot better than those of you who worship at the Church of St George can deal with your patron saint being called to account for some of his more cockeyed contributions to social discourse. I’ve always been fond of Carlin’s denunciation of religiosity. Too bad he’s not here to denounce it in some of his own fans. I’d LIKE to think he would have happily done just that. I really don’t know.
You know what a bigot is? Someone who makes wildly false assumptions based on limited data. I work as an adotoption advocate and rescue coordinator in an animal shelter, dip$#!%. It is precisely in THAT capacity that I have little patience for people who make big bucks making uninformed, childish jokes at the expense of people, many of whom are elbow deep in the world’s problems in a way that VERY few cynical comedians are.
Oh, and NYC is where he was born, not where he was living towards the end of his life. Carlin blasted “white liberal hypocrites”, but by taking on issues like these, he made himself look like one. I’ll bet a lot of people have a lot more rough stuff (and fewer golf courses) in their “backyards” than Carlin did after he made his showbiz gravy. He should have stuck to religion, censorship and pets. This routine is truly offensive, and not in a “good way”.

NY City has a ton of shelters, rehabs, etc, but it also has a lot of wealthy neighborhoods. Where exactly did Carlin live?
